Scuba Diving in Kona is the best in the
whole state of Hawaii. The Big Island has three big volcanic peaks
which protect the Kona Coast from wind, rain and big ocean swells.
There are no rivers or streams on this side of the island making the
underwater visability over 100 feet on average. The reefs are healthy
and vibrant with finger coral, plate coral, cauliflower coral, and
huge antler corals, just to name a few. The water is calm and warm
with an average temperature of 80 degrees. |
| Hawaii, being situated smack dab in the
middle of the Pacific Ocean, allows for some AMAZING critter interaction.
As the currents move around the world, they bring us Pelagics and
a wide variety of marine mammals. The rule of thumb in Kona is to
expect the unexpected. The following is a list of animals which have been seen on our dives or on our surface intervals over the last couple of years: |
 |
Humpback Whales
Sperm Whales and Pygme Sperm Whales
Short Finned Pilot Whales
Pygme Killer Whales and False Killer Whales
Blainsville and Couvier Beaked Whales
Whale Sharks
Tiger Sharks
Scalloped and Great Hammerhead Sharks
Oceanic White Tip Sharks
Sand Bar Sharks
Silky Sharks
Bronze Whaler Sharks
Oceanic Black Tip Sharks
White Tip, Black Tip and Grey Reef Sharks
Monk Seal (a very endangered species)
Manta Rays and Eagle Rays
Hawksbill and Green Sea Turtles
Pacific Bottlenose, Rough Toothed, Spotted and Spinner Dolphins |
